Courtroom Etiquette….

Yes, it definitely does matter what you wear to court.  The judge and everyone in the courtroom will take notice of how you choose to present yourself to the court.  You want to show that you respect the courtroom and that you are taking the matter seriously.  You should wear something you would wear to church, work or a nice social function.

As with any Courtroom, certain etiquette is required.

♦  Suitable “general public” attire is required

♦  Remove hats

♦  All cell phones/pages should be turned off or turned to vibrate

♦  No food or drinks are allowed in courtroom

♦  Stand when addressing the Judge

♦  Generally, you will address the Court from a Counsel Table in front of the Judge at the head of the Courtroom

♦  Only one (1) person at a time may speak during a Court Proceeding

♦  Speak clearly and loudly to ensure the Judge hears all of the testimony and evidence presented.
