National Pedestrian Safety Month
NHTSA celebrates National Pedestrian Safety Month by strengthening its efforts to improve safety for pedestrians. Unfortantely, in 2021 there were 7,388 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes, the highest since 1981. Let’s increase awareness to combat pedestrian crashes.

National Teen Driver Safety Week
This week, parents should have conversations with their teens about the important rules they need to follow to stay safe behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. These rules address the greatest dangers for teen drivers: alcohol, inconsistent or no seat belt use, distracted and drowsy driving, speeding, and number of passengers.

National School Bus Safety Week
During National School Bus Safety Week, lets help NHTSA share the message about the dangers of illegal school bus passing. The school bus is one of the safest modes of transportation, but illegal school bus passing poses a significant threat to children and their caretakers.

TN Drowsy Driving Awareness Week
Drowsy Driving is a dangerous behavior that can result in serious injury or death. But despite the risks, drowsy driving is far too prevalent. Take a break. Drive awake. Sleep is the only remedy for drowsy driving.

Fire Prevention Week
The 2023 Fire Prevention Week campaign works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires. Fire Prevention Week is observed in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire in October of 1871.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Join the NBCF (National Breast Cancer Foundation) in raising awareness as we take action, support one another, and help women now. For 31 days of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, pink ribbons appears as the impact of breast cancer is brought ot the forefront of national conversation. Awareness alone isn’t enough….get involved, get screened, and take action!

National Crossword Puzzle Day ~ Dec. 21st
The first crossword puzzle was created by Arthur Wynne and published on Dec. 21, 1913 in the New York World Newspaper. The puzzle was diamond shaped and contained no internal black squares. It was so popular with readers that within a decade crossword puzzles were reatured in almost all American newspapers.

Walk Your Dog Month
January is designated as Walk Your Dog Month! Did you know there are many benefits to walking your dog – not just for your pup, but for dog owners too!? Regular walks are a great way for both you and your dog to stay in shape and help with overall health. Healthier pets mean fewer trips to the “dogtor”!

Career and Techncial Education month
Every February, the CTE community celebrates CTE Month to raise awareness of the role that CTE has in readying learners for college and career success. CTE Month is also a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of our CTE partners at the local, state and national level.

National Blood Donor Month
January is National Blood Donor Month. Historically, blood donations decrease in the holiday and winter season as schedules change due to travel and leave, weather conditions intensify, and seasonal illnesses take hold. President Richard Nixon proclaimed January 1970 as the first National Blood Donor Month on December 31, 1969, as requested by Senate Joint Resolution 154, to pay tribute to voluntary blood donors and encourage new donors to join.

National Eye Care Month
National Eye Care Month is celebrated in January for one reason: caring for our eyes. Our entire body is one remarkable macro-organism that is still not fully understood by doctors and scientists. Every organ has a unique function, and although it is hard to determine which organ is the most important one can easily say that eyes serve a very important purpose i.e., to see! So to cherish our eyes, one must care for them, and voilà, the National Eye Care Month is there to serve this need.

Be Kind to Servers Month
Be Kind To Food Servers Month is observed every January to honor the individuals in the food serving industry. Did you know tips were introduced in the late 1800s by wealthy Americans returning from Europe? Being kind helps to make food servers feel appreciated and everyone wants and needs to feel appreciated for their work. So when you eat out this month, remember to be extra kind to those who are there to serve you!

National Rubber Duckie Day ~ Jan. 13th
Rubber ducks were invented in the late 1800s when it became possible to more easily shape rubber, and are believed to improve developmental skills in children during water play. The yellow rubber duck has achieved an iconic status in Western pop culture and is often symbolically linked to bathing.

Main Street Committee
The Pikeville Main Street Committee is looking for volunteers! Anyone interested in volunteering their time to help with events and brainstorm on new events, is welcomed! Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month, 5pm, at the City Hall Building, 25 Municipal Drive, Pikeville.
New ideas are always welcome!

Light Up Pikeville Work Day
The Light Up Pikeville first work day to start decorating, will be Saturday, November 4th at 10:00 am, meeting at the courthouse. Everyone is invited as many volunteers are needed to make this even successful. Don’t miss the opportunity to join us and decorate downtown.
If anyone would like to donate trees of any size, wreaths, new white lights, red bows and garland, it would be greatly appreciated, as the weather has taken a toll on some of the decorations from last year. All donations can be dropped off at “It’s Lola’s” on Main Street.

Light Up Pikeville Committee Meeting
The Light Up Pikeville committee is meeting on Thursday, October 12th at 6:00 pm in the City Hall meeting room. All community members are encouraged to attend and share their ideas for some fun holiday events. Volunteers will also be needed to assist in preparing the town for the festive season. Don’t miss the opportunity to join us and contribute your creative suggestions.

Community Joining Hands
The Pikeville Police Department will be holding it’s ‘Community Joining Hands’ on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 6:30pm, in the City Hall Banquet Room, 25 Municipal Drive, Pikeville. Statistics for last quarter will be discussed, along with Holiday Safety Tips during the upcoming holidays. Make sure you attend and know how to protect yourself.

Pikeville Summer Nights
Our next Pikeville Summer Nights will be held July 1st on Main Street. Activities will start at 12:30 PM on the Courthouse lawn. Our Farmers Market will be open Friday 9am-1pm, and Saturday 9am-2pm, underneath the pavilion. The Cruise Into Pikeville begins at 4:00 PM with classic cars lining Main Street. Live Music, featuring Good Rockin’ Tonight, will begin at 5:00 PM. Come Out and Join the Fun!!
**Main Street will be closed from Cranwell Street to Gill/Sells Street, 3:00pm until 8:00pm. **

Fall Festival - SAVE THE DATE
SAVE THE DATE….The Pikeville Main Street Committee is starting to plan the Fall Festival, which will be held on Saturday, October 7 Events will begin at 11am. Keep an eye out here for updates.

Enjoy games, a hayride, a movie in the pumpkin patch, and participate in the highly anticipated costume contest. Don’t forget to showcase your creativity by decorating your vehicle or trunk for the trunk-or-treat event, where the chance to win cash prizes awaits!

Sip & Shop
Please join us for our Annual Christmas Sip ‘n Shop Market on Main Street! Hosted by the Pikeville Farmer’s Market, this 2-day event will kick off the holiday season by supporting our local vendors. All downtown vendors will be open on Friday, November 17th from 5pm until 8pm and again on Saturday, November 18th from 10am until 2pm.

Santa's Reindeer
Santa’s Reindeer will be stopping in Pikeville on their way from filming another Halmark Christmas Movie. They will only be here for one night, Tuesday, November 14th, before heading back to the North Pole. Time and location will be forthcoming. Make sure to come have your photo taken with Santa and his reindeer…..bring the kids, family, neightbors, and co-workers!

Bledsoe Community Health EXPO
The Bledsoe Community Health Expo in downtown Pikeville is happening on October 20th. This event aims to promote and improve the overall well-being of the attendees through a wide range of health-related resources and services. This Health Expo is a must-attend for anyone interested in improving their health and quality of life.

Christmas Courthouse Tours
Everyone is welcome to tour our beautifully decorated Courthouse on Thursday, December 7th from 5pm until 7pm. Refreshemments and goodie bags will be available. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance at “It’s Lola’s” or call/text 804-519-4918.

Christmas Parade Registration
The Pikeville Main Street Committee is is bustling with excitement as they prepare for Pikeville’s Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, November 25th. To streamline the process, registration is now available online. Sign up and secure your spot in the parade today. Entry Fee is $10 and payable at City Hall.

Small Town Magic
The City of Pikeville presents the 27th Annual Christmas Parade. The parade will be held on November 25th at 5pm (EST).
If you are planning on having a spot in the parade, please make sure to complete the online registration.
Grant Awards

Pikeville Police Department Receives AEDs
On July 4th, the Pikeville Police Department received six (6) Automated External Defibrillators. The AEDs were purchased with Grant Funds through the Gary Sinise Foundation. Pikeville Grant Writer, Jeannie Decker, identified the grant opportunity to receive funds for equipment that could help in saving lives.

Tourism Marketing Grant Award
On August 23rd, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development announced that the City of Pikeville had been awarded a $7,750 grant for Tourism Marketing. This marketing grant provides for organizations to expand their marking message to increase travel-generated revenue.

Law Enforcement Grant Award
On September 12th, the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance announced the Pikeville Police Department had been awarded a $200,000 incentive grant for Law Enforcement through Hiring, Training and Recruitment. This grant is designed to support making Tennessee the best state for Law Enforcement by attracting quality applicants.

Flag Day
Wednesday, June 14th, is Flag Day. On May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14. Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front of homes and businesses. The day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.

Juneteenth Closure
All City of Pikeville offices and departments will be closed on Monday, June 19, 2023, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. All business will resume on Tuesday, June 20th during regular business hours.

City Offices Holiday Closure
All City Offices and Departments will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, in observance of Independence Day. We will resume regular operations on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023.

Patriot Day ~ September 11
Patriot Day, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, is a day observed in the United States on September 11th to commemorate those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trace Center in New York and the Pentagon in Virginia and those who perished when the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

City and County Officers Birthday Surprise
The Pikeville Police Department along with the Bledsoe County Sheriffs Office surprised a Pikeville boy on his 7th Birthday. Elijah’s mom posted on Facebook about how much her son loves the police. Assistant Chief of Police David Decker saw the post and immediately reached out to his mom for details. Then without any hesitation, Assistant Chief Decker contacted the Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Office to coordinate this huge surprise for Elijah. This is what Community is all about!

The City of Pikeville has recently acquired an Online Bill Paying System. We’ve made it easy and safe for you to pay your bill online.
You can now pay your Property Tax, Utility Bill, Accident Report Fee, Beer License, or Traffic Citation by visiting our new Online Bill Pay System.

Mayor and Board of Aldermen Meeting RESCHEDULED
The regular meeting of the City of Pikeville Mayor and Board of Aldermen for Monday, October 9, 2023, (Columbus Day) will be rescheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 6:30pm (CST). The meeting is held in the Pikeville Municipal Building located at 25 Municipal Drive, for the purpose of considering and transacting all business which may come before such board.

Board of Mayor and Aldermen Recess Meeting
The Pikeville Board of Mayor and Aldermen will hold a Recess Meeting on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the City Hall Building, at 25 Municipal Drive, Pikeville. The Recess Meeting will begin at 6:00 pm.
Road Closures

Street Closure
On Saturday, June 16th, Main Street from Cranwell Street to Cumberland Street will be closed to thru-traffic, from 8pm until 10pm. The area will be open for pedestrian traffic only. Pikeville Main Street Committee will be hosting the Movie Under the Stars.

Street Closure 10/6-7/23
Several streets in Downtown Pikeville will be closed starting Friday, October 6th at 6pm through Saturday, October 7th at 8pm for the Fall Festival. Main Street will be closed from Cranwell Street to Sells/Gill Street. Also, Church, Cumberland, and Spring Streets will be closed between Methodist and Fraizer Streets.
Several detours will be available to get around downtown.

Road Closure ~ 11/25/23
Portions of downtown Pikeville will be closed on Saturday, November 25th for our Small Town Magic Christmas Parade. Main Street from Cranwell Street to Sells Street will be closed to thru-traffic, from 2pm until 8pm. The area will be open for pedestrian traffic only.

Portions of downtown Pikeville will be closed on Thursday, December 14th for Santa’s Reindeer and Deck Your Ride Cruise-In. Main Street from Cranwell Street to Sells Street will be closed to thru-traffic, from 4pm until 8pm. The area will be open for pedestrian traffic only.
